EPISODE - 2
Hello friends, Thank you for your love and continued support
on this blog.
So, after the staff announcement for the final selection, here
comes the second episode of this blog.
THE ROCK FELL INTO THE HANDS OF A SCULPTOR:
After our staff’s announcement, We started to practice intensively. Around 4:30 PM the Radio station judge came into our practicing hall. We all are getting ready to present our speech. Since this is my first ever speech competition in college, I’ve decided to give my best to select for participating in the competition. Finally, I said to myself as no matter what, I have to present this speech well.
When my turn comes, I delivered my speech quite well as I planned. the Radio Station judge has announced the list of selected candidate's names. Luckily, In our gang, all of us got selected. All Selected candidates should present their speech at the event, the next day.

On the next day, The competition was about to start in the evening around 3.00 PM. So our coordinator said that we can practice from morning to at the time of competition starts. He provided On-Duty permission for us. Since everyone from a different department, Our coordinator asked Naveen to make all candidates present at the practicing hall. I had no idea about On-Duty permission. I was filling water in my bottle at the water purifier area chit-chatting with my friends.
When looking back intact, I saw Naveen and his junior friend walking towards me. As usual, I was staring at him without looking anywhere. Naveen came two steps close to me and said, “Are you Poorni from the ECE department?” I said “Yes Anna” In Tamil, Anna means elder brother. Since he was a senior I don’t dare to call him Naveen. Whenever I call him “Anna” he immediately turned up mad and said, “Don’t ever call me Anna. Just call me Naveen or Lal”. He said, “Our coordinator asked to assemble everyone and start to prepare for the competition in the practicing hall and also On-Duty permission is provided for us.”
Every Engineering college student would know the excitement of getting the On-Duty permission. In the same way, I was excited as well and replied “Okay Anna. I will come within 15 Minutes”. Since the hall in our department’s block was engaged for another program of our college, I was confused about where to go and practice. At the time Naveen came and said come to the ground we all are there only Someone went to ask the coordinator for the hall to practice.
I nodded and followed him. We sat and discussed everyone’s topic. After half-an-hour that boy came and informed us, to move to Ramanujam Hall of our college (It’s a small auditorium where events and functions of our college were conducted) our coordinator asked us to occupied that hall for practicing.
CHERISHED MOMENTS:
We all went over there and started practicing. Every moment of this day is the most cherishing moment for me. After an hour of practicing most of us were thirsty. So, we took a break and had some snacks. At that time one of our team members shared bourbon biscuits. Naveen shared half of the biscuit with me. As I said earlier, I opened my mouth like a 6-month baby, He fed that half biscuit to me. I don’t know why whenever he feeds me food, I accepted that caring.
We all were practicing outside the hall seriously. Naveen came to me and said, “I prepared my speech. I would like to do a rehearsal. Could you please help me with it?” I replied “Sure”. He started to present his topic. He had collected good valuable points with innovative thoughts. He got awesome speaking skills. Once he completed it, I told “ Awesome. Surely you will get awarded and recognized. All the best!”.
While we having this conversation, we heard a voice from inside the hall, The competition was going to start. The volunteers arranged the chairs and assembled the candidates and students in their respective places. I was sat in the third-row corner. Naveen came and sat next to me. I was embarrassed and gave him a gesture with a smile. I was blushing which was completely out of my control at that moment.
There were just a few minutes to the event and I was saying to myself, “I have to prepare myself for presenting my best. Somehow, God should save me from this guys' interaction”. At that time, suddenly my classmate invited me to occupy the second chair of the same row we were sitting but from the other side. I thanked God immediately and was about to move there. At that moment, instantly, Naveen held my hand and ordered, “not to change the seat”.
I was blushing and told him, “No, I have to move there. You shouldn’t hold my hand like this. If someone sees, it would be an issue for me”. After a minute of struggle, He left my hand and I moved to that place. But the situation wasn’t favorable any longer.
Once I sat in my chair, I noticed that Naveen Junior's friend was sitting next to me. This guy asked Naveen to interchange the seats. He finally sat next to me again. I started to blush again. He looked at me with a cunning smile.
SPEECH PRESENTATION:
Once the event started, They introduced their organization and lectured about their achievements and well-fare activities. Also, Some staff presented their guest lectures. That took almost an hour. Around 4.00 PM the speech presentation part started, The Panel member called up the names one by one. Till that moment, I was blushing. I pleaded with God to get my mindset for presenting and delivering my best.
Since Naveen had excellent speaking skills, the panel member called his name first. I murmured “All the best” when he stood up and was about to leave the seat. As I expected, He delivered his speech wonderfully. Candidates who delivered their speeches were made to sit on the stage on completing their presentations. Thankfully, I got quite some time to set my mind and prepared for my speech.
After three members, they called up my name. I presented my speech to the maximum extent but not the best of mine. Friends, I guess, you could understand my mindset at that moment. Since I was in a state of blushing most of the time, I wasn’t able to deliver the speech to my best.
Once all candidates delivered their speech, The judge appreciated all the candidates and he was about to announce the best speakers of the event.
I am ending this episode here. Please stay tuned for the upcoming episodes.
